What should I be able to complete physically prior to the class?
We recommend all swimmers be in good physical condition, and are able to swim 25 yards underwater, 225-yard surface swim, and tread water for 15 minutes at the minimum. Swimmers should be comfortable holding their breath for long periods of time and free diving to depths of 20+ feet.
What do I need to bring to class?
Swimsuit, towels, sweat gear, mask, fins, booties, snorkel, weight belt for individual’s weight. We recommend a minimum of a 3mm or 5mm one-piece full suit. Sunscreen, swimmers ear drops, and skull cap are also recommended.
Where should I stay if coming from out of town?
There are several places we recommend if you are planning on staying nearby. The following are 10-20 minutes from our training locations.
The Hampton Inn in Dupont.
The Courtyard by Marriot in Downtown Tacoma.
Airbnb is also a great place to look for places to rent during your stay.
Where is the course located?
We are located in Washington State. The course takes place 20 minutes south of Tacoma.
Can my DEPARTMENT OR organization host a class?
We do offer the option of traveling to your location to teach the course. A minimum class size of 15 is required, and basic travel expenses and lodging are covered by the host organization. Please contact us for full details.
How should i train for this course?
We recommend swimming at least twice a week, working your way up to 600-yards at a minimum without stopping. Getting up to 1000-yards would definitely set you up for success.
Tread water at the end of each workout for 15 minutes.
And lastly, we recommend swimming 25-yards underwater before training and after. Whenever doing underwater swimming we highly suggest having a partner or someone watching you. Swimmers have been known to experience shallow water black out when they do this. We always lean on the side of predictable-preventable.
